Muscle contraction is initiated by the binding of the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine, with specific receptors in the muscle membrane. Acetylcholine is released from the synaptic vesicles of the motor neuron. Interaction of acetylcholine with its receptors initiates cascade of events, causing muscle contraction and relaxation.
