Lec 16- John Fernandez: materials in society

Lec 16- John Fernandez: materials in society. MIT professor, John Fernandez spoke on October 27, discussing the place that materials hold currently in society, and where he believes resources and material science will be in the future. __________________________________________ Material use and understanding has become more directly linked to architectural practice and to architectural education. Digital fabrication, integrated practice, and cutting edge designs employ material investigations, large scale mock-ups and prototypes of building sections or assemblies. The tactile and esthetic qualities of materials have always been of comparable measure to design, construction and architectural experience; but emergent materials and their associated technologies are rapidly altering the way designers work and the way end-users engage buildings. This series seeked to address the ever-expanding world of materials and their incorporation into our built environment.
