Lec 21 - smART Explorers: Art Programs for South Side Elementary Schools

Lec 21 - smART Explorers: Art Programs for South Side Elementary Schools. The Smart Museum's smART Explorers program for South Side fifth graders is a cornerstone of the museum's educational initiatives. Students are led by docents and professional teaching artists, who introduce them to methods of looking at and communicating about works of visual art. The program is supported by sketchbook writing and drawing activities and culminates in a Museum Final Event during which students present their ideas about art. The Smart Museum's funded educational programs integrate all facets of the visual arts into the school curriculum by fostering critical thinking, writing, and creative problem solving skills through Museum visits, online activities, hands-on projects, and classroom discussions.
