Signal transmission and muscular contraction

Action potentials in the motor neuron cause release of neurotransmitters from the neural vesicles. Interaction of the neurotransmitters with specific receptors, located on the surface of muscle fiber, causes release of calcium ion that initiates the process for contraction in the muscle.
