Holden, JD: The catcher in the Rye Part 2
Holden's life intention is to be at the edge of the fence in a rye environment i.e. holding children before they go down fall. This image is an analogy of Holden's ambition to save children and himself from growing to adulthood to experience "phony." Holden share a Robert Burns' song "Coming Thro the Rye" - two bodies in a rye meeting for sex- to make his idea symbolic.
