Fission and fusion

What are fission and fusion processes in physics? Fission and fusion are nuclear reactions that produce energy at the end of the reaction. The applications are not the same. Fusion is the process where two light nuclei combine together releasing vast amounts of energy, on the other hand fission is the splitting of a heavy, unstable nucleus into two lighter nuclei.
