Increasing the speed of light, just slightly, by removing air molecules, observing the speed limit. Air slows down light. The refractive index of air is 1.00025, slowing light by 1/4000. The interferometer splits the light into two paths. In 2 experiments the air is made thinner in one of the paths. So the light will reach the combiner one period earlier ( 0.00217 ps ). In experiment 1. the air is heated over a distance of 2x5mm by 100°C. The resulting shift is one fringe. In experiment 2. the pressure is lowered over a distance of 2x50mm. A pencil-stand is prepared as a cuvette and the pressure is measured with a water pipe and a ruler. The pressure decrease for the delay of one period is 2.4 kPa which is 24 cm water column. The measurement shows a value in the range around 25 to 30 cm, a litte bit more, as there is a small leak in the sealed pencil-stand. For each 1cm water column the delay is about 100 atto seconds. 0.000 000 000 000 000 1 s. In Experiment 2 wird der Druck auf einer Strecke von 2x50mm reduziert. Ein Bleistiftständer ist als Küvette umgearbeitet und de Druck wird mit einem Wasserrohr und einem Lineal gemessen. Die Messung ergibt einen Wert um 25 bis 30 cm, etwas mehr als erwartet, da der Bleistiftständer etwas undicht ist.
